　　阿尔特是二十世纪阿根廷最伟大的左翼现实主义作家和戏剧家，他出生于欧洲移民家庭，从小在布宜诺斯艾利斯的贫民窟中生活，熟悉下层民众的种种苦难和不幸，后来依靠自学成才，在创作上阿尔特深受俄国的陀思妥耶夫斯基和契诃夫等人的影响，作品中的人物大多为游荡于社会底层的歹徒，疯子，妓女和强盗，借这些人物来倾吐他对社会政治的不满与抗议，1929年的《七个疯子》是他最著名的一本小说，在拉美文学史上占有很经典的位置。托雷·尼尔逊的这部同名电影获得过73年柏林电影节最佳影片银熊奖和最佳导演提名。
