《凝视》为一部心理惊悚片，薇诺娜·瑞德在片中饰演一名剧作家，在进行创作的过程中，她发现自己逐渐产生幻觉，并开始被这些幻觉和噩梦所干扰，让她无法分清哪些是真实、哪些是幻想。至于詹姆斯·弗兰科，将会饰演瑞德剧本中的一位演员。
从剧情上看，这个恰好类似薇诺娜·瑞德刚刚出演过《黑天鹅》中波特曼的角色，不过这回主人公成了编剧，而且瑞德成为了主演。影片由Jay Anania执导，他与弗兰科关系很好，因为他是弗兰科在纽约大学导演专业的老师，这恐怕也是两人能够合作的重要原因。另外，Jay Anania执导的另一部作品《影子的赞歌》也宣布会由弗兰科担纲主演。
