　　其实关于“了望酒店”的由来和闪灵的背景，《闪灵》原著作者斯蒂芬·金（Stephen King）在小说的序幕里是写了的，但是小说1977年出版的时候，这段序幕却被砍掉了。《了望酒店》就将根据这个被砍掉的“序幕”创作，故事的主角是酒店第一任主人——19世纪末、20世纪初的一个叫做鲍勃·T·沃特森（Bob T. Watson）的强盗男爵，他和家人占据了科罗拉多落基山区一片偏僻土地，建造了酒店，并以此为家。
