胡枝子村（싸리골）是韩国某处一个偏僻的小山村。战争的炮火蔓延到了这个原本平和的小山村。姜老爹召集所有的村民，嘱咐大家无论发生什么事情大家都要保持冷静，不要恐慌。这时，被人民军包围而迷失方向的国军少尉向姜老爹求援。姜老爹征求了村民的同意，带着国军部队来到了村庄。在学校老师庆秀的帮助下，下士军官伪装成老师，下士们进入寺庙，八名军人伪装成了村子里的年轻人。另一方面，生活在这个村庄里的양장댁的丈夫和一个自称편문원的人一起参加左翼运动，后来投向北方。姜老爹找到了양장댁。尽管深陷战争，但在这个小村庄里没有发生屠杀和死亡，成为了战火中的一个神话。
